China’s steel bar imports down 16.4 percent in Q1

In March this year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, steel pipes/hollow profiles, steel plate and angles/channels respectively amounted to 90,000 mt, 30,000 mt, 1.04 million mt and 40,000 mt, down 24.9 percent, 14.4 percent, 2.1 percent and 8.7 percent year on year, according to the monthly import and export data issued by the Chinese customs authorities.

In the January-March period of the current year, China’s steel plate imports amounted to 2.94 million mt, up 0.9 percent year on year, while its imports of steel bars, angles/channels and steel pipes/hollow profiles amounted to 260,000 mt, 100,000 mt and 100,000 mt, decreasing by 16.4 percent, 4.5 percent and 2.0 percent year on year, respectively.

As previously reported by SteelOrbis, in March this year, China imported 1.234 million mt of finished steel, up 20.2 percent month on month and decreasing by 5.1 percent year on year. In the January-March period of the year, China imported 3.451 million mt of finished steel, down 0.8 percent year on year.
