China’s steel bar exports decline by 20.7 percent in 2018

In December last year, China’s export volumes of steel bars amounted to 0.70 million mt, down 34.1 percent year on year, while export volumes of angles/channels, steel plate and wire rod amounted to 290,000 mt, 3.36 million mt and 180,000 mt, increasing by 9.6 percent, 7.4 percent and 7.8 percent year on year, respectively, according to the Chinese customs authorities.

In 2018, China's export volume of steel bars and steel plate amounted to 12.75 million mt and 40.23 million mt, down 20.7 percent and 6.9 percent year on year, while export volumes of angles/channels and wire rod totaled 3.52 million mt and 2.07 million mt, up 2.4 percent and 1.3 percent year on year, respectively. 

In December, China exported 5.56 million mt of finished steel, down 1.9 percent year on year, while the country’s finished steel exports in the full year totaled 69.34 million mt, down 8.1 percent year on year, as previously announced by the Chinese customs authorities.
