In the first five months of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 15.48 million deadweight tons (dwt), up 18.9 percent year on year, according to the figures released by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) on June 19.
In the given period, China's new ship orders amounted to 7.86 million dwt, down 77.4 percent year on year. As of the end of May, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 138.18 million dwt, down 8.2 percent year on year and decreasing by 7.5 percent compared to the end of 2014.
In the first five months, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 14.08 million dwt, up 8.1 percent year on year and accounting for 90.9 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China's new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 6.65 million dwt, down 79.8 percent year on year and constituting 84.6 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of May, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 132.01 million dwt, down 6.7 percent year on year and constituting 95.5 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
