In the January-April period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 11.7 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 37.0 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 18.02 million dwt, increasing by 171 percent year on year. As of the end of April, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 93.01 million dwt, up 7.4 percent year on year and increasing by 6.6 percent compared to the end of 2017.
In the January-April period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 10.9 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 38.2 percent year on year and accounting for 93.2 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 16.72 million dwt, increasing by 195 percent year on year and constituting 92.8 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of April, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 84.08 million dwt, up 5.2 percent year on year and constituting 90.4 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
