The Chinese customs authorities declared that
China's total trade volume reached $157.36 billion last month, up 30.5 percent year on year. Of this figure, exports rose 33 percent to $86.62 billion, while imports increased 27.5 percent to $70.74 billion - evidence that Chinese foreign trade continues to maintain its fast growth rate.
According to the statistics, general trade totaled $71.12 billion in January, up 33.2 percent year on year. Meanwhile, processsing trade increased 25.7 percent to $70.7 billion. The trade surplus was $15.88 billion, a 64.7 percent rise year on year.
Since the Spring Festival last year was in January, while this year's festival is in February, it is not possible to make a valid year on year comparison as regards export data. It is instead advisable to wait for February's figures and then to make such a comparison based on the first two months of the year.
In January, the European Union, the United States and
Japan remained the top three trade partners of
China with trade volumes of $26.46 billion, $23.43 billion, and $17.51 billion, up 37.9 percent, 27.8 percent and 26.5 percent year on year respectively.
