China’s iron ore imports up 2.4 percent in first quarter

China imported 80.51 million mt of iron ore in March this year, increasing by 18.5 percent month on month and up 8.9 percent year on year, according to data issued by the Chinese customs authorities on April 13. In the first quarter of the current year, China imported 227.06 million mt of iron ore, up 2.4 percent year on year.

In March, China imported 1.21 million mt of finished steel, increasing by 39.08 percent month on month, but down 3.2 percent year on year. In the January-March period, China imported 3.23 million mt of finished steel, down 10.0 percent year on year.
