In September this year, China's consumer price index (CPI) indicated a year-on-year increase of 1.9 percent and was up 0.3 percent month on month, as announced by China's National Bureau of Statistics on Monday, October 15. In August, China's CPI had seen a year-on-year rise of 2.0 percent. In the January-September period, China's CPI indicated a year-on-year increase of 2.8 percent.

Observers state that consumer inflation well below the annual target of four percent set by the Chinese government allows room for the Chinese authorities to do more to support the domestic economy.

Meanwhile, in September China's producer price index (PPI) fell by 3.6 percent compared to the same month last year, while it was down 0.1 percent on month-on-month basis. In the January-September period, China's PPI fell by 1.5 percent year on year.
