China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), the country’s largest state-run infrastructure company, is in talks with Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) to partially or fully buy the steelmaker’s Transnordestina railway, according to Brazilian newspaper Estadao.

The media report said the Brazilian government, a partner in the project, is seeking a solution for the delayed project, which could involve excluding CSN from the project. Chances for CSN to stick with the 1,073-mile railway project are minimal, according to Estadao.

Recently, the Brazilian government said it plans to invest BRL 1.4 billion ($457.3 million) in at the project within the next three years. The goal was to have the railway completed by 2021. It was originally expected to be completed in 2010.

CCCC reportedly went to Brazil’s capital, Brasilia, to meet government officials, but did not offer a concrete willingness to join the project.
