China to eliminate 800 million mt of coal capacity per year up to 2020

China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has announced in its development plan for the domestic coal industry during the 13th five-year plan period (2016-20) that China is aiming to eliminate 800 million mt of outdated coal production capacity each year up to 2020.

The NDRC stated that China’s coal output would amount to approximately 3.9 billion mt in 2020, with about 3,000 coal enterprises operating around 6,000 coal mines nationwide.
