China lifts import restriction on steel

China on Saturday lifted restriction for the import of steel, natural rubber, wool, acrylic fibers and veneer in accordance with its commitments to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Ministry of Commerce said. All eligible enterprises can import these five commodities as of December 11, 2004. The move was made in accordance with its commitments to the WTO, which the country joined in 2001. At the same time, the ministry said a regulation on designated management of imports and two catalogues on designated import commodities and importers have also become void. The restriction of timber importation has been already cancelled in 1999.
