The Industry and Information Technology Department of China’s Hebei Province has announced that capacity replacement plans for Tangshan Songting Iron and Steel Company, Hebei Xinda Iron and Steel Group and Tangshan Xinbaotai Iron and Steel have been halted. This happened after China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced that as of January 24 2020 no new capacity replacement plans could be published and no new steel projects could be filed in all regions of China, while works on projects under construction should be halted and any rectification works requested by the MIIT should be carried out.

Tangshan Songting Iron and Steel Company has planned to build a 1500 cubic meter blast furnace, equivalent to 1.33 million mt of iron-smelting capacity. Hebei Xinda Iron and Steel Group has planned to build a 100 mt converter, equivalent to 1.15 million mt of steelmaking capacity.

Tangshan Xinbaotai Iron and Steel has planned to eliminate one 1,080 cubic meter blast furnace and a 60 mt converter, equivalent to 1.1 million mt of iron-smelting capacity and 0.8 million mt of steelmaking capacity, with those capacities being transferred to Jilin Province-based Jilin Henglian Precision Casting Technology Co., Ltd.

The companies will have to report to the MIIT until April 30, 2020, and only then may some projects be given the green light to continue construction.
