Bulgaria’s basic metals output up 9.2 percent in January

According to the latest data released on March 7 by the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute (NSI), in January this year Bulgaria's seasonally adjusted industrial production index decreased by 0.6 percent compared to the previous month and was down by 3.6 percent year on year.
 
Meanwhile, in January the seasonally adjusted industrial production index in the manufacture of basic metals increased by 14.4 percent month on month and was up by 9.2 percent compared to the same month last year. In the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, a month-on-month increase of 13.1 percent and a year-on-year decrease of 11.4 percent were recorded.
 
On the other hand, in January this year construction output was 1.8 percent below the level of the previous month. The index of production for building construction, calculated from the seasonally adjusted data, showed a decrease of 0.9 percent, while the production index for civil engineering fell by three percent, month on month. On year-on-year basis, in January the overall construction output index, calculated from data adjusted in line with the number of working days, increased by 0.2 percent, with an increase of 7.6 percent in civil engineering output, while the production index for building construction decreased by 4.9 percent.
