Brazil’s steel exports up 39 percent in Q1

In the first quarter of this year, Brazilian steel exports totaled 2.82 million metric tons, increasing by 39.2 percent as compared to January-March 2010, according to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr).

Accordingly, in the first three months of this year Brazil's flat steel exports rose by 14.2 percent to 758,300 metric tons, while its long steel exports amounted to 339,000 metric tons, up 43.2 percent, both compared to Q1 2010.
 
On the other hand, in March this year, Brazil's total steel product exports totaled 871,400 metric tons, increasing by 24.8 percent year on year. Of this total, long steel exports amounted to 114,900 metric tons - up 4.2 percent, while flat steel exports came to 197,800 - down 18 percent.
