Brazilian civil construction activity in March declines to lowest level due to Covid-19

Brazilian civil construction activity in March declined to 28.8 points, in a scale from zero to 100, in which values above 50 indicate growth, according to a report from the local confederation of industries (CNI).

CNI said the 28.8 points seen in March 2020 represent the lowest level reported so far in the historical series, attributing the record low to the Covid-19 pandemic. In comparison, the index registered at 44.5 points in March 2019, and 47.5 points February 2020.

According to CNI, the capacity utilization of the local civil construction segment in March fell to 52 percent, down from 57 percent in March 2019, and from 60 percent in February 2020.

CNI said the indicator that measures the number of job positions in the sector in March decreased to 39 points, from 43.7 points in February 2019, and from 47.7 points in February 2020.
