Brazil’s ministry of industry, foreign trade and services (MDIC) has applauded this week the US Department of Commerce announcement that exclusions to Section 232 quotas will be available for Brazil, Argentina and South Korea.

“The changes published (this week) were requested by the Brazilian government in conversations with peers in the US. The Brazilian government will continue working to preserve the interests of exporters and domestic producers regarding the US market,” MDIC said in a statement.

Under Trump’s decision, companies can apply for product exclusions based on insufficient quantity or quality available from US steel or aluminum producers. In such cases, an exclusion from the quota may be granted and no tariff would be owed, the US Department of Commerce said.
