Bluescope Steel North America announced Tuesday plans to shut down its Varco Pruden (VP) Buildings’ manufacturing operations, in Kernersville, North Carlina, eliminating approximately 175 jobs.

In an attempt to eliminate excess manufacturing capacity while improving operational efficiencies and production capabilities at existing facilities, VP Buildings’ parent company, Bluescope Steel, made the decision to shut down the plant.

President of Bluescope Buildings North America, Pat Finan, commented, "This strategic move aligns our total resources, operations, systems, and employees to position BlueScope Buildings North America for continued growth.”

VP Buildings manufactures pre-engineered steel buildings. The plant is slated to close in December of this year.
