BHP Steel recommends BlueScope Steel Ltd. as new name

As previously reported at SteelOrbis, Australian steel maker BHP Steel Ltd. (BSL) was in preperations to change its name due to the demerger from its former parent company BHP Billiton almost a year ago. According to an announcement made today, BSL will recommend to change company's name as BlueScope Steel Ltd. which is believed to express company's characteristics best and besides enables to have the continuity in acronym as BSL. The Thai operations of the company BHP Steel Lysaght, will be renamed as BlueScope Lysaght whereas name of New Zealand Steel will remain unchanged. North Star BHP Steel's name, a 50-50 joint venture between BSL and North Star Steel Company, is yet to be determined. BSL intends to receive approval from shareholders for the new name at the annual general meeting to take place on November 12, 2003.
