Beijing green lights Shougang’s Hebei project

Recent market news suggests that China's central government approved Beijing Shougang Group's plan to move its heaviest polluting plants to Hebei province by 2010. In line with Shougang's plan, production at factories in Beijing will be reduced to 4 million tons by 2007. By 2010, production at factories in the region will cease. Even though the company is moving its production to Hebei, its headquarters will remain in Beijing. The new Hebei plant will be built on a 20 km² area on the island of Caofeidian.
