In May 2008, Baosteel commissioned its production line for grain-oriented silicon steel products. In 2010, Baosteel has so far supplied 1,000 mt of high grade grain-oriented silicon steel for large transformer applications within the scope of the Three Gorges Dam Project in Hubei Province.

In China, there are just a few steelmakers, such as Baosteel, WISCO and Anshan Steel Group, which are able to produce silicon steels.
