On March 23, Chinese steel giant Baosteel announced that it plans to build its first overseas tinplate beverage can plant in Vietnam, in order to meet the increasing demand in Southeast Asia for tinplate cans for beverages. The new plant, which will be located in Singapore Industrial Park near Hanoi, will have an annual capacity of about 3.5 billion cans.

Coca-Cola and other beverage producers are increasingly using tinplate cans instead of aluminum cans, in order to reduce production costs.
