Zhao Lang, head of the overseas research institute of Chinese steelmaker Baosteel, said on September 16 that Baosteel is aiming to export over 10 percent of its finished steel output in 2010 and that the company is trying to achieve a higher export volume than in 2009.
In 2009, Baosteel exported 1.656 million mt of finished steel, which was equal to 7.4 percent of its total output for the year, while in 2008 it exported 2.677 million mt of finished steel, equivalent to 11.4 percent of its annual output.
Mr. Zhao indicatesd that in the current year Baosteel's principal export product is high-end steel sheet, which accounts for around 50 percent of its overall export volume. He said that Baosteel is also seeking to increase its sales of stainless steel and heavy plate in the overseas markets.
