Australia’s prime minister Malcolm Turnbull and finance minister Mathias Cormann met US president Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G20 summit held in last week in Hamburg to secure exemption from the US Section 232 investigation for Australia’s steel exports to the US, according to the UK-based newspaper the Guardian.

The Guardian stated that the Turnbull government has secured an important exemption for Australian steel and aluminum exports to the US, as the Trump administration reportedly considers imposing tariffs as high as 20 percent on steel imports.

However, the exemption of Australia’s steel exports from the Section 232 investigation has not yet been officially confirmed by the Turnbull government or by the Trump administration.
