ArcelorMittal Temirtau, subsidiary of global steel giant ArcelorMittal and the largest metallurgical enterprise in Kazakhstan, has completed the reconstruction of its blast furnace No. 2, one of its biggest metallurgical projects of recent years. The blowing-in of the blast furnace and the commencement of production operations is scheduled for December this year.

As a result of the full reconstruction, the capacity of blast furnace No. 2 has been increased by 15 percent, and pig iron production at ArcelorMittal Temirtau is expected to reach 1.3 million mt per year. The main work on the reconstruction project had started in January 2010.

ArcelorMittal Temirtau also plans to reconstruct its blast furnace No. 3 and to increase its capacity by 70 percent (up to 6,300 mt of pig iron per day). Completion is scheduled for the second quarter of 2013.
