Brazilian steelmaker ArcelorMittal Brazil was granted a definite operating license for its Barra Mansa mill, located in the city of same name in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Barra Mansa’s city hall said. The mill has an 800,000 mt/year long steel capacity.

The definite operating license was granted by Barra Mansa’s mayor, Fatima Lima, to two ArcelorMittal Brazil executives: Fernando Bartolomeu Magalhães, who works as the mill’s director, and human resources manager Herik Pires Marques.

Bartolomeu said ArcelorMittal Brazil plans to modernize the Barra Mansa mill, but he did not provide further details. Earlier this year, ArcelorMittal Brazil said it would reduce operations to become more competitive, without providing an exact production cut figure.
