Arcelor Mittal, the world's largest steelmaker, has announced today that it will sell Huta Bankowa to Alchemia SA Capital Group. Located in Dabrowa Gornicza (Southern Poland), Huta Bankowa is a 100 percent-owned subsidiary of Arcelor Mittal. The company specializes in the production of merchant bars and sections. The sale is a part of Mittal Steel's commitments to the European Commission made during the merger of Arcelor S.A and Mittal Steel N.V. In line with its commitments to the European Commission, the company agreed to sell three European medium/heavy section mills: Arcelor's Stahlwerk Thüringen and Travi e Profilati di Pallanzeno (Italy), as well as Mittal Steel's section and bar mill, Huta Bankowa (Poland). As previously reported by SteelOrbis, Arcelor Mittal announced the sale of Stahlwerk Thüringen to Grupo Alfonso Gallardo on December 6, 2006, and the sale of Travi e Profilati di Pallanzeno to Duferco on December 13, 2006. Commenting on the sale, Arcelor Mittal CFO, Aditya Mittal, said: “This is an excellent outcome. Huta Bankowa and Alchemia will be a good fit together. With this transaction we will have fulfilled all our competition commitments to the European Commission.”
