Arcelor and Baosteel inaugurate laser welding operation

Luxembourg-based steel producer Arcelor and Chinese steel company Baosteel have recently inaugurated their new laser processing facility in Shanghai, China. At the inauguration ceremony, Baosteel officials stated that the newly-launched plant is China's largest processing plant for tailor welded blanks and it will largely serve Chinese market. Therefore Chinese dependence on imported blanks will reduce. The new laser processing line will have an annual production capacity of 2.6 million parts or 40'000 tons of tailor welded blanks. Apart from Arcelor & Baosteel's, there are only two small laser processing lines in China. The project is stated to have cost $100 million.
