Chilean copper and iron ore producer Andes Iron said it will appeal a decision by a government environmental commission that rejected the company’s Dominga iron ore project, which was expected to produce up to 12 million mt of the commodity.
The company said it will appeal the decision to the country’s minister council.
According to a document filing by the Chilean environmental commission, the project “lacks information about its influence area,” as well as the impact it might have on the environment.
Chilean media noted Andes Iron has about 30 days to appeal the decision.
Andes Iron expects to invest about $2.5 billion in the project and generate some 9,800 direct jobs.
