AK Steel and the United Auto Workers (UAW) have announced that they have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract covering 190 hourly workers at the company's Rockport, Indiana facility.
The tentative contract would replace the existing contract that expires September 20, 2007, extending from August 1, 2007 to September 30, 2013. The new contract is subject to ratification by Local 3044 members in a vote expected to take place within a week.
AK Steel said in a press release that both parties agreed to start early bargaining in the mutual desire to reach a new contract well ahead of the expiry date of the current agreement.
Details of the tentative contract were not immediately released.
Rockport Works, located on the Ohio River in southwest Indiana, produces a full range of cold rolled carbon, coated and stainless steels, with either annealed and pickled or temper rolled surfaces.
