Turkey's motor vehicle output up 12.6% in May over April

According to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD), in May this year Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 104,349 units, decreasing by four percent year on year and up by 12.6 percent from April.

In May, Turkey's passenger car output totaled 51,237 units - down five percent, its commercial vehicle production amounted to 48,629 units - down three percent, while tractor production amounted to 4,483 units - remaining unchanged, all compared to May 2011.

The overall production capacity utilization rate of the Turkish automotive industry in May was 76 percent, up from 68 percent recorded in April. In the first five months of the year, the production capacity utilization rate was 72 percent.

Meanwhile, in the first five months of this year, the country's total motor vehicle output amounted to 491,255 units, down eight percent year on year. Passenger car output in the given period totaled 237,611 units decreasing by 14 percent year on year, while commercial vehicle production stood at 231,755 units, down two percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
