Local Chinese steel pipe prices follow a downward trend

The local Chinese steel pipe prices have followed a downtrend during the past week.

Local Chinese seamless pipe prices have declined during the past seven days. Overall trading activity has been influenced by the rainy weather in Southern China and is currently weak. Prices of billet and other raw materials prices have declined further both in the spot and futures markets, causing seamless pipe prices to follow the same trend. Certain producers have chosen to reduce their production volumes since demand has remained weak. As for the week ahead, it is believed that seamless pipe prices may fluctuate on a soft trend.

Chinese domestic welded pipe prices have fallen sharply during the past week amid declines in prices of steel strip and other raw materials. Demand has been weak due to the off-season and the rainy weather. As for the week ahead, it is believed that welded pipe prices may fall further, but decrease margins may be smaller.
