The leading Japanese EAF-based steel producer Tokyo Steel has reduced its domestic scrap purchase prices for the Kyushu region, announcing a drop of JPY 500/mt today, April 9. This announcement was made following the Kanto scrap export tender, closed with the highest bid at JPY 43,288/mt FAS, JPY 938/mt lower than last month. The dollar-based price in the Kanto tender increased by only $1/mt to $298/mt FAS, taking the exchange rate changes into account.
Tokyo Steel’s general range for H2 grade scrap price has remained stable in the range of JPY 40,500-43,000/mt ($280-297/mt) depending on the mill. The Tahara plant alone now represents the upper end of the range. The dollar-based price increased by $5/mt compared to April 9 taking into account the exchange rate.
Shindachi scrap prices of Tokyo Steel have also remained stable, at JPY 41,500-45,000/mt ($287-311/mt) delivered, up by $5-6/mt on US dollar basis. The prices shared in the table below are effective as of April 10.
