Bangladesh’s import scrap market has witnessed fluctuating prices this week, with offers showing an upward bias, though actual deals continue to be concluded with discounts. At the same time, while moderate activity has persisted in the containerized segment, trading momentum in the bulk market has shown signs of revival, reflecting a cautious yet improving demand outlook.

Most offers for shredded scrap in containers from Australia have been voiced at $375-380/mt CFR, up by $5/mt over the past two weeks. Besides, offers for ex-EU HMS I/II 80:20 have settled at $355/mt CFR, up by $5-10/mt over the past two weeks. According to sources, most bids for ex-Australia shredded scrap have remained at $370-375/mt CFR levels, while deals have been occasional over the period under the review. In particular, last week a deal for around 2,000 mt of ex-Australia HMS I/II 90:10 was signed at $350/mt CFR Chattogram, while a few more deals for ex-Australia HMS I/II 80:20 have been signed at $345-347/mt CFR over the past week, according to sources.

In the meantime, trade activity has improved to some extent in the bulk segment, with a sale of around 32,000 mt in total for ex-US scrap reported to have been signed at $352/mt CFR for HMS grade scrap, at $357/mt CFR for shredded and at $362/mt CFR for bonus scrap last week. “There was also one more ex-US deal for 32,000 mt at more or less the same price level as last week concluded by another trader,” a market insider told SteelOrbis.

Besides, this week, another deal for 10,000 mt of ex-Japan H2 and HS scrap has been signed at $339/mt CFR and 369/mt CFR, respectively this week.  This means the deal price for ex-Japan H2 scrap has remained relatively stable over the past two weeks.

Furthermore, another deal for around 10,000-15,000/mt of ex-Singapore HMS grade scrap has been reported at $360/mt CFR, but no official confirmation has been provided by the time of publication.

“We also heard a deal for an ex-Australia bulk cargo for around 28,000 mt booked at $345/mt CFR for HMS I/II 80:20, at $350/mt CFR for shredded and at $355/mt CFR for bonus grade, but it was signed around two weeks ago, and was disclosed just now,” a Bangladeshi trader told SteelOrbis.
