Over the past two weeks, Turkish official domestic merchant bar prices have increased by TRY 950-1,100/mt ($27-32/mt) amid ongoing currency fluctuations and costlier import scrap and billet. In addition, one Iskenderun-based mill issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 18,250/mt ($634/mt) ex-works yesterday and has closed its merchant bar sales today.

Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for December delivery or from stocks. A few re-rollers are also offering their HEA/HEB (550-700 mm, standard) at TRY 24,400/mt ($847/mt) ex-works for delivery in the Karabuk region. "Limited billet availability is one of the main challenges for the merchant bar segment these days," one source mentioned. Most buyers are monitoring the import scrap price trend ahead of the Turkish Central Bank's interest rate decision due on Thursday, November 23.
