Chinese domestic steel section prices have fluctuated over the past week, softening slightly on week-on-week basis.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have moved up a little week on week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,070/mt ($428/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,090/mt ($430/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,170/mt ($442/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the steel section market has been at normal levels, while prices first softened during the past week and then started to move up, following a similar fluctuating trend in billet prices. However, some slowness on the demand side meant that the increases in steel section prices were smaller compared to the increases in billet prices. As for the week ahead, considering the support from the cost side and the weather getting warmer, it is believed that steel section prices may move up by small margins.
