Chinese domestic steel section prices have followed an upward trend during the past seven days.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have showed a rebounding trend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,080/mt ($428/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,100/mt ($431/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,180/mt ($442/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has remained weak due to the approach of the Chinese New Year holiday, while prices have increased supported by the rises in prices of billet and other raw materials. Some recent decreases in market inventory levels and production volumes ahead of the holiday have also provided support for steel section prices. As for the week ahead, it is believed that steel section prices will follow a mostly stable trend in the run-up to the holiday.
