World pig iron output down 10.9 percent in January

In January this year, world pig iron production amounted to 91.38 million mt, rising by 0.52 percent compared to December and declining by 10.9 percent compared to the same month of 2015, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
 
In January, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 69.66 million mt, down 12.6 percent, with 53.15 million mt produced by China, declining by 14.7 percent, 6.8 million mt produced by Japan, down 1.8 percent, and 4.68 million mt produced by India, dropping by 5.9 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.92 million mt of pig iron, down 5.3 percent, while the CIS produced 6.53 million mt, up 1.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
