World DRI output up 2.62 percent in August over July

According to the preliminary data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the first eight months of 2010 came to 37.96 million metric tons, rising by 1.3 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2009.

Meanwhile, in August this year world DRI output totaled 4.66 million metric tons, rising by 2.62 percent compared to July and up by 11.64 percent year on year.

The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in August, with a DRI output of 1.8 million metric tons, remaining unchanged as compared to July levels and up 2.86 percent year on year, followed by Iran and Venezuela, with outputs of 636,000 mt and 385,000 mt respectively.
