Vulcan Threaded Products Inc., the largest producer of threaded rod in the US, filed an antidumping petition with the US Department of Commerce (DOC) and US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday against threaded rod imports from China.
The petition alleges that Chinese imports of this product have risen by nearly 300 percent from 2005 to 2007 and were sold at levels below those of US producers during that period, allowing the Chinese manufacturers to claim two-thirds of the US market.
The estimated dumping margins for threaded rod from China range from 35 to 206 percent, with an average margin of 89 percent.
The ITC is expected to make a preliminary injury determination in this case by mid-April 2008, and the DOC should issue a preliminary dumping determination by August 2008. A finding of "critical circumstances" would lead to duties imposed retroactively to May 2008.
