US companies request government to take action against scrap exports

According to news from the industry a coalition, representing a wide range of US steel producers and steel consumers as well as foundries, is in talks with the US Department of Commerce (DOC) regarding surging scrap exports to Asia, mainly China. Coalition is planning to petition for taking measures to limit these scrap exports that lead to shortage in supply within the country. However implementation of such restrictive measures by DOC in order to relieve scrap supply is something pretty uncommon. DaimlerChrysler, the Steel Manufacturers Association and the Forging Industry Association are among representatives of this coalition.
