Ukrainian production for January-August

According to the data released by the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine, the country's production of finished steel products, crude steel and pig iron rose 8 percent and that of pipes rose 11 percent year on year to 22.7 million metric tons, to 27.02 million metric tons, to 21.7 million metric tons and to 1.67 million metric tons respectively in January- August 2006. In addition, during the given period, Ukraine produced 47.98 million metric tons of iron ore, up 7 percent, 37.15 million metric tons of iron ore concentrate, up 7 percent, 13.44 million metric tons of pellets, up 14 percent, 31.65 million metric tons of agglomerate, up 2 percent compared to January- August of 2005. However, in the first eight months of 2006, the country's production of coke fell 1 percent while that of ferroalloys fell 11 percent year on year to 12.59 million metric tons and to 898,000 metric tons respectively. The amount of scrap supplies to the metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine rose 8 percent to 4.3 million metric tons during the subject period.
