Ukraine ups iron ore and coke outputs, reduces ferroalloy production in Jan-Aug 2008

According to the preliminary data, in the first eight months of 2008 Ukraine produced 54.2 million metric tons of iron ore - up six percent, 43.28 million metric tons of iron ore concentrate - up seven percent, 15.45 million metric tons of pellets - up three percent, and 33.33 million metric tons of agglomerate - no change, all compared to January-August 2007.

During the given period, Ukraine saw a nine percent increase in its coke production to 14.7 million metric tons but a 36 percent decrease in its ferroalloy production to 688,000 metric tons.

During the January-August 2008 period, a total of 4.7 million metric tons of scrap were delivered to the Ukrainian domestic steelmakers - up four percent compared to corresponding period of 2007.
