A shipment of Turkish rebar arrived in the Port of Palm Beach, Florida last week for the first time in eight years, according to local media. The shipment of around 5,000 metric tons will be stored at the port for 100 days.

The rebar is slated to be used in construction projects in Miami-Dade County, the port’s executive director Manuel Almira told the port commission Thursday.

The port already exports steel scrap, and the city of Palm Beach recently signed a 40-year contract with metals recycler Stonerock Shipping that is expected to bring the port $40 million in income. The agreement calls for the company to pay a minimum of $506,000 a year for the first five years and ship at least 100,000 tons.
