According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (DCUD), in January this year Turkey's finished steel production reached 3.04 million mt, up by 14.4 percent year on year.
Of the total finished steel production in January, 76 percent consisted of long steel products, while 24 percent was accounted for by flat steel products. Turkey's flat steel production amounted to 730,000 mt in January, with an increase of 13.9 percent, while domestic production of long steel products rose by 14.5 percent to 2.35 million mt, both compared to January 2011.
Meanwhile, Turkey's total steel product consumption in January reached 2.74 million mt, rising 16.8 percent compared to the same month last year. In the month in question, Turkey used 1.54 million mt of long steel products, up 13.2 percent year on year, while the country's flat steel consumption was 1.19 million mt, increasing 21.8 percent compared to January 2011.
