Turkey’s steel import value rises 81.5 percent in February

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in February this year Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.59 billion, increasing by 81.5 percent year on year and up 5.17 percent over January, while imports of articles of iron or steel rose by 51.1 percent compared to February 2010 and were up 7.63 percent month on month, reaching $181.62 million.
 
Meanwhile, in the first two months of 2011, the country's iron and steel imports stood at $3.1 billion, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $350.37 million, increasing by 54.5 percent and up 51.4 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
