According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in August this year, Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.25 billion, increasing by 29.2 percent year on year and up 3.89 percent over July, while imports of articles of iron or steel rose by 39.5 percent compared to August 2009 and were down 11.19 percent month on month, reaching $161.45 million.
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of 2010, the country's iron and steel imports stood at $10.28 billion, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $1.24 billion, increasing by 49.8 percent and up 30.1 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
