Turkey’s steel exports to UAE fall 37 percent in 2011

Turkey's largest steel export markets in 2011 were Iraq with 1.52 million metric tons and the United Arab Emirates with 1.51 million metric tons, according to the data provided by Turkey's Steel Exporters' Association (CIB). Turkey's steel product exports to the UAE fell by 36.99 percent, while its steel product exports to Iraq rose by 28.3 percent, both compared to 2010.

Steel product exports to the UAE accounted for an 8.35 percent share of Turkey's total steel product exports in 2011, down from a 13.85 percent share recorded in 2010, and significantly down from the 29.74 percent share in 2008. Meanwhile, the share of Turkey's steel product exports to Iraq of the total steel product export volume was 8.4 percent in 2011, up from 6.8 percent recorded in 2010.

In 2011, Turkey's leading exported steel product to both the UAE and Iraq was steel bar, including rebar, with a volume of 1.25 million metric tons to the UAE and 858,974 metric tons to Iraq. In 2011, Turkey's bar exports to the UAE fell by 6.3 percent year on year, while steel product exports to Iraq rose by 51.9 percent, both compared to 2010.
