Turkey's steel product exports to the European Union in the first nine months of 2011 rose by 81.1 percent year on year to 2.9 million metric tons, according to the data provided by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB). The region was one of Turkey's major export markets, accounting for 21.4 percent of its total steel product exports. In January-September 2010, this share was recorded at 12.6 percent.
In the January-September period of this year, Turkey's steel product exports to Italy amounted to 1.08 million metric tons, up 275.6 percent compared to January-September 2010, followed by Romania with 289,837 metric tons, increasing by 21 percent year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's steel product exports to the UK totaled 246,789 metric tons, rising by 11 percent, exports to Spain came to 224,755 metric tons, climbing by 18 percent, exports to Germany stood at 199,103 metric tons, up 53.5 percent, exports to Belgium increased by 131 percent to 169,652 metric tons, and exports to the Netherland increased by 51.4 percent to 151,235 metric tons, all compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
