Thai Commerce Ministry might withdraw AD duties on HR steel
Thai Ministry of Commerce is reported to have made a commitment to lift the anti-dumping duties implemented back in May on hot rolled steel imports from 14 countries.
Since the implementation of these duties, a great deal of opposition was received from the Japanese origin cold rolling mills in
Thailand as well as the Japanese traders. They claimed that the local hot rolled steel producer Sahaviriya Steel Industries (SSI) was not able to produce hot rolled steel sheets that meet their specific requirements for cold rolling. Since the last couple of weeks, SSI and the cold rolling mills Siam Steel United (SUS) and Thai Cold Rolled Steel Sheet (TCR) have been in negotiations in order to resolve this issue.
The Thai manufacturers complain that this anti-dumping duty implementation will raise their
production cost, particularly in automobile and other related industries. It is believed that this has served as a main drive for the Thai Ministry of Commerce to take such decision.
