State Council halts Erdemir privatization again

Mr. Emin Koramaz, the president of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), announced that 13th State Council halted the execution of the Turkish Competition Authority Board's (CAB) decision regarding Erdemir privatization. Mr. Koramaz stated that the subject decision was taken in a law suit filed by the MMO, adding that “It proves that hand-over of Erdemir lacks legal support”. This is the second “stay of execution” decision taken by the State Council regarding Erdemir privatization. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, a statement released by the TMMOB on May 10, 2006, stated that “the 13th State Council halted the execution of the transfer on the ground that the CAB took a decision regarding Erdemir privatization with eight officials, which is illegal, whereas the decision was to be taken with seven officials.”
