Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) has announced that it has received a major order from South Korean steelmaker POSCO (Pohang Iron and Steel Company Ltd) for the installation of a slab caster capable of casting 400 mm thick slabs at its Pohang steelworks.

The new caster - the machinery, engineering, key equipment, technological packages and advisory services for which will be supplied by Siemens - will be the largest slab caster ever supplied worldwide and will have a nominal casting capacity of 1.3 million mt per year.

The contract value for the order is a two-digit million euro figure and the project will be implemented in collaboration with POSCO E&C (POSCO Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd) and POSCON - an affiliated company of POSCO's automation division. The first slab is scheduled to be cast in February 2010.
